Kobian
phone for Rs 12,700
Kobian, a IT peripherals company which sells mobile phones under
Mercury brand name, has launched a new device with dual SIM slot and a 5 inch screen. The device,
called Mercury magiQ, though look like a smartphone, is being referred as a
tablet.
This dual SIM phone is based on
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and runs on a 1 Ghz processor.
It has 512 MB RAM, 4 GB built-in storage with 32 GB expandable memory option
and a capacitive multi touch panel.
The phone supports 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth. Mercury magiQ has a front VGA camera and a rear camera with 12 megapixel
resolution which is the best in this category as far as specs go.
According
to the company, the battery of Mercury magiQ provides standby time up to 15
days and talk time up to 13 hours, which also one of the best figures in the
category though not the best.
Mercury
magiQ comes with in-built Accelerometer, GPS,
and phone book. The phone weighs 140 grams and is 11.6mm thick.
Sushmita Das, country manager -
India at Kobian said, "Mercury magiQ tablet is a tab-cum-smart phone
designed to meet and satisfy current user needs. It has all the latest features
and an attractive slim and stylish look to complete the package with dual SIM
being the cherry on the top."
Mercury magiQ comes with an
maximum retail price of Rs 12,700 and is available with 1 year warranty.
The phone will compete with
Micromax A100 which is priced at Rs 9,999 only and Spice Stellar Horizon Mi500
that is priced at Rs 12,500. Though on paper Mercury MagiQ is better than these
two but both Micromax and Spice have better brand recall in the mobile domain
and therefore it will be a challenge for Kobian. However, both the Spice and
Micromax are yet to be made available in the market.
